How do people hear you?

Do you come across as someone who is always having problems or someone who can solve problems and get on with life? Are you a Negative Nelly or a Positive Polly?

What you say and the way you say it can have a huge impact on how people interact with you, and also on how you view the world and create opportunities for yourself. Let’s focus on 3 areas where you can control your attitude.

  1. Speech - do you say lots of negative words or are you speaking in a positive way?
”I don’t, I can’t, I should” are all negative ways of speaking. Instead replace these phrases with “I do, I can, I will”. Example, “I don’t like spending time on my own” can turn around to a positive by saying “I do enjoy time with my friends”. “I can’t find time to exercise” becomes “I can find time to exercise” and “I should go to bed earlier” becomes “I will go to bed earlier”.

  2. Body language - do you stand slumped over, look at the floor with head down, fiddle with your hands or cross your arms? Make a small change and see how much better you feel - stand up straight and look people in the eye. Place your hands by your side or clasp your hands in front of you. Does it make you feel more confident and ready to take on the world?

  3. Actions - do you sit home feeling sorry for yourself or do you go out and work hard for what you want? Focus on what it is you want to achieve, then write yourself a list of ways you can achieve that. What actions can you do to make it happen?

Focus on making one change at a time and see how much more positive you feel, how differently you see the world and how much happier you are as well as those around you.
