How to train with perfect technique and why it is important

Today I had the pleasure of working with a new client - a young lady who has previously had a gym membership, but like many people, after a few weeks stopped going to the gym as she didn’t know what to do, how to do it or how to use the equipment correctly. She also felt judged and that others were watching her - sound familiar?

I often tell my clients that one of the main benefits of working 1:1 with a personal trainer is that you don’t need to do any of the thinking - you simply turn up and do the work :)

As your trainer, I think about what program each client needs to undertake each week based on their current level of fitness and strength, and what their goal is. I then utilise the correct equipment to achieve those goals. But most importantly, I am your eyes and mirror. Yes, my studio does not have any mirrors - as I am the one watching your technique and showing you how to change your form to ensure every exercise is done with correct movement.

Why is this important?

Incorrect technique can lead to injury. As an example, if your squats have your knees pushing forward, you are putting all your weight (and any you are holding) through your knee joint. Overloading this is adding pressure on the joint which can lead to knee injuries. If you are injured you won’t be able to continue training which will hinder your ability to reach your goals, and most likely leave you feeling miserable, and possibly stress eating. See the bad cycle happening here?

Training with the correct technique also ensures you are able to get the benefits of the exercise you are undertaking and ensure those goals are reached more quickly.

And the great thing about In 2 Life Fitness, is that I apply the same methods in my live online group fitness sessions - technique is number one!!!
